WATCH: Swimming pool BURSTS as Australia and Argentina pile in to celebrate SVNS triumph
Australia and Argentina breaking the swimming pool after SVNS triumph.
Australia and Argentina took to the swimming pool after winning the Cape Town Sevens at the weekend, and it had rather comical consequences.
It was a great day for both countries, who claimed the titles in the latest round of the World Rugby Sevens Series.
After collecting their medals, they then charged into the pool which was situated away from the pitch for the supporters.
Celebrations
The Los Pumas Sevens players started flinging water about while the Australians jumped up and down, but it evidently proved too much for it to handle.
The dam duly burst, so to speak, as the side of the pool collapsed and water gushed out, forcing one injured player to take evasive action.
There was a mixture of hilarity, disbelief and disappointment, with the commentary team particularly enjoying the moment.
They couldn’t contain their laughter, especially when a slow-motion replay showed the swimming pool bursting.

It was a fantastic moment at the end of a great tournament for both Australia and Argentina, who won the respective titles.
Los Pumas Sevens dominated the men’s competition and produced a superb display in the final to beat Australia 45-12.
“I love, too, the way they play,” coach Santiago Gómez Cora said. “We said they’re crazy because you put all the passion – they know how to play, obviously – they are a team that feel the way that they play. They’re a little crazy to play in that way.
“We’re very happy because we feel at home here at Cape Town. They support us, so thank you very much, everyone – hope to see you next time.”
Successive victories for the Australians
As for Australia, they went through the women’s tournament unbeaten, but they were made to work by France in the final as they claimed a narrow 29-26 triumph in the showpiece event.
Following their win in Dubai the previous week, it means that they have started the 2023/24 SVNS with successive victories.
Captain Charlotte Caslick said: “It was a really gutsy effort, finishing the game with only six players. We played France last week and also had a red card. To do that two weeks in a row it was just so brave from the girls.
“We love coming to Cape Town, so to win here and go back to back – we haven’t done that for a really long time – it’s set our season up really well.”
The tournament now takes a bit of a break before it heads to Australia for the Perth sevens at the end of January.
