Scotland dealt major blow as star centre and wing out of Six Nations

Scotland duo Darcy Graham and Sione Tuipulotu.
Scotland have been hit with a double setback ahead of their Six Nations run-in after centre Sione Tuipulotu and wing Darcy Graham were ruled out for significant periods.
The in-form centre has formed an impressive partnership with Huw Jones for both club and country in recent years, with the pair known as Huwipulotu amongst supporters.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith has confirmed that the 27-year-old picked up the problem during Scotland‘s recent Six Nations home victory over rivals England.
10-12 weeks out
Smith said that Tuipulotu‘s injury “is not as bad as first feared” and hopes that he will return quicker than estimated. However, the back’s absence will still be a lengthy one.
“He is going to be out 10-12 weeks, maybe even quicker, but we are conservative with it,” head coach Smith said on Friday. “No operation is needed, which is important.”
A further setback for Scotland ahead of their remaining two Six Nations games sees electric Edinburgh wing Graham requiring groin surgery that could end his season.
The 26-year-old has not featured for his country this campaign but was outstanding during the Rugby World Cup last year, with his absence a setback to the backline.
Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt revealed the disappointing news regarding the wing, who scored five tries at the global tournament in France, as he was in sparkling form.
“We really feel for Darcy because he is a player that puts his heart and soul into rugby,” said Everitt, with a “three-to-four month” timeframe likely for the impressive winger.
“He loves playing for this club, while he is a proud Scotsman who takes great pride in representing his country.
Surgery next week
“We’ve got every confidence Darcy will work his way back from next week’s surgery with the same drive and determination with which he trains and plays.”
Everitt added: “There is an opportunity now for Darcy to use this time to get better and, if need be, take the rest of this season plus the pre-season to build himself up in to top form.
“We all know that he is world class when he is on top of his game, so it is vitally important for him as an individual that we look after his wellbeing other than the physical side of his performance.”
