Saracens sign Welshman with ‘enormous talent’ who is yet to ‘fulfil his potential’

Saracens have announced yet another front-row signing this week as they look to power up their pack ahead of the 2024/25 season.
After securing the services of highly-rated Newcastle Falcons youngster Phil Brantingham, the London club have confirmed the return of Wales international Rhys Carre.
The 26-year-old previously featured for Saracens during the 2019/20 season after representing Wales at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
To date, he has made 88 appearances for Cardiff Rugby, scoring 16 tries and earning 20 Test caps for Wales.
Opportunity to fulfil his potential
Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall is pleased to have the loosehead prop returning to his squad and believes that the best is still to come for Carre, who is yet to fulfil his potential.
“We are pleased to welcome Rhys back to the club and at 26 he is a player with his best days ahead of him,” McCall said.
“We witnessed his enormous talent first hand during his first spell at the club and he returns with more experience and the opportunity to fulfil his undoubted potential.”
The 6ft 3″ and 130kg prop is keen to pick up from where he left off in London.
“”I’m grateful for the opportunity to pick up where I left off four years ago and to be a part of a squad with big expectations going forward!” he said.
Leaving Cardiff
However, in a statement released by Cardiff, he explained that it was a tough decision to leave Wales and return to Saracens.
“It wasn’t easy to come to this decision as Cardiff is obviously a club which means a huge amount to me,” Carre said.
“It’s my home club, the club I grew up supporting, and I came through the ranks here, so I have a lot of friends in the squad.
“But after my previous move to Saracens was cut short, I’ve always felt I had unfinished business there. I had a great year in London and I’m really looking forward to getting back into a different environment and competition.
“I feel like I am performing well at the moment, and I’m really enjoying the style of play at Cardiff, so hopefully, I can continue that from the rest of this season and then at Sarries.
“I’m hugely grateful to everyone at Cardiff – my teammates, the staff and fans – for the opportunities and support I have been given.
“It is a team heading in the right direction and with a lot of potential. I will give my all to that blue and black jersey for the remainder of the season and will always keep a close eye on the Arms Park.”
