Curve it like Dan Carter! French fly-half replicates All Blacks legend’s iconic kick

Dan Carter's curve kick for the Cruasaders and Jules Plisson's conversion for Clermont.
Double World Cup-winning All Black Dan Carter had so many iconic moments and plays during his career, and Frenchman Jules Plisson has replicated one.
Many of Carter’s most iconic moments came in the black jersey, winning two World Cups, while he was also was a three-time World Rugby Player of the Year.
But he was also successful at club level, winning three Super Rugby titles, and it was during his time with the Crusaders that Carter produced a memorable conversion from the touchline that brilliantly curved between the uprights.
Jules Plisson curves it like Carter
That kick was replicated this past weekend in the Top 14 by Clermont fly-half Jules Plisson during the clash against Toulouse.
Plisson, who has represented France on 14 occasions, lined up the conversion to Bautista Delguy’s try in the 74th minute of the match.
The 32-year-old looked to have missed the kick when the ball sailed far to the left of the posts but managed to pull it back round for it to bisect the uprights.

It was clearly reminiscent of Carter’s kick for the Crusaders during the 2007 Super Rugby match against the Highlanders.
Carter, who unlike Plisson is left footed, lined up the more difficult kick from the left touchline and seemingly hit it too far to the right but somehow managed to get it to curve back to the left and through the sticks.

Plisson’s efforts were not enough
The Clermont fly-half’s outstanding conversion was not enough to help his side to victory despite the kick drawing them to within a converted try of Toulouse.
Clermont were put on the back foot early on in the encounter when Christian Ojovan was red-carded in the 10th minute, and despite managing to stay within touching distance of Toulouse for most of the match, they fell just short of securing a losing bonus point in the 33-37 home defeat.
