All Blacks star Will Jordan has been ruled out for the entire 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season after the Crusaders revealed that he requires surgery on an injured shoulder.

The 25-year-old flyer, who scored eight tries in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, will be sorely missed by the Crusaders this campaign as they look to claim yet another title.

31 tries in 31 Tests

Jordan‘s record at international level is staggering too with 31 tries in as many Tests, but he will be unable to build on that tally in July’s two-Test series against England.

He could also miss the first part of the Rugby Championship which is a setback to new All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson, who will need to look elsewhere for a finisher.

But in the short-term it is his absence from Super Rugby Pacific that will be most felt as new Crusaders head coach Rob Penney suffers a blow in his first season at the helm.

“Will Jordan has recently been under conservative management due to a pre-existing shoulder injury from the 2023 season,” read a statement from the 12-time champions.

“After assessment from the Crusaders medical team he will undergo surgery and as a result be unavailable for selection during the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season.”

Set to miss six months

They added: “He is expected to be fit to return to play in approximately six months.”

The Crusaders will kick off their Super Rugby title defence this coming Friday away to the Chiefs and will play their first home match in Round Two, against the Waratahs.

Jordan’s surgery compounds the absence of injured Leigh Halfpenny while Fergus Burke, who can play at fly-half and full-back, is out until April with an Achilles injury.
